ICON Resin Infiltration

Resin infiltration is a minimally invasive restorative treatment to treat white-spot lesions on your teeth. They usually appear as white spots on the teeth and are also referred to as hypo spots or enamel bruising. These white lesions are usually caused by enamel defects, trauma, or infection to the primary teeth and result from decreased access of calcium and other ions to the deeper portions of the enamel on the tooth, eventually resulting in white spots on the external surface of the tooth.

To perform ICON resin infiltration treatment, your dentist will remove the outer layer of enamel that is blocking the calcium and other ions to penetrate the tooth and replace it with a different substance. The treatment is quick and minimally invasive.

Majidian Dental offers ICON Resin Infiltration at our practice in Fargo, ND.

  • How is ICON resin infiltration performed?

ICON Resin Infiltration treatments are done in one dental visit and don’t require shots, numbing, or drilling. The entire process usually takes anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.

The procedure is typically done with the following steps:

    • Dental cleaning to remove any substance from the teeth
    • Removal of the outer layer of enamel that is blocking calcium and other ions from entering the tooth
    • Using a finishing substance on any surfaces that do not indicate an improved appearance
    • Application of a drying agent to the areas of the tooth affected
    • Removal of any excess material
    • Material is added again for curing and then excess removed
  • How long do ICON resin infiltration treatments last?

ICON resin infiltration is considered to be a long-term treatment solution that can last anywhere from two to six years or longer. It does not typically require re-treatment like many teeth whitening product solutions.

  • What are the benefits of an ICON resin infiltration treatment?

ICON resin infiltration treatments are generally much less invasive and expensive than tooth fillings or dental veneers. They can also be performed at a sooner stage in tooth growth where dental veneers need to wait until tooth growth is fully completed.

Additionally, untreated hypo spots usually look worse with any sort of teeth whitening or teeth bleaching treatment, where hypo spots treated with ICON resin infiltration will take on the same color as the other teeth after teeth whitening procedures.
